Fox Searchlight Buys Choke for $5 million

First Little Miss Sunshine, then Juno, and now Fox Searchlight has purchased the rights to Choke, Clark Gregg's adaptation of the Chuck Palahniuk novel that has been getting rave reviews at the Sundance Festival. Even non-fans of the book have been singing the praises of this film, so when it's finally released in the theaters, it will definitely be a must-see.

Heath Ledger found dead in NY apartment

Australian actor and rising star Heath Ledger was found dead in his Mary Kate Olsen's a SoHo apartment earlier today with pills near his body. NYT is now saying "signs point to suicide". This is sure to send shockwaves throughout the industry. Ledger was cast as the Joker in the upcoming Batman flick The Dark Knight. He was 28.

New Cut/Copy Video - Lights and Music

I've been thoroughly enjoying this song as of late, and the band has now released a video. It's a great electro-pop tune with that ever quirky Aussie accent pervading. Cut/Copy's In Ghost Colors is due out in March via Modular.

Coachella 08 - The return of Dwight Yoakam, oh and some guy named Roger Waters

The 2008 Coachella lineup has been announced, and headlining the festival's final day will be Roger Waters performing Dark Side of the Moon. I think that's a pretty awesome way to close the fest but most early comments and reactions from loyal fans and festival-goers don't seem to agree. It's definitely not as good as this past year's ACL but I'd take ol' Rog over Bobby Dylan any day. Headlining Saturday is a reconvened Portishead, and closing the fest's opening night will be Jack Johnson. But the best part, on tap for Saturday, Dwight. Freaking. Yoakam. Excited? Me neither, but come on, if that's not a pop culture megashow that you have to see at some point in your life, I don't know what is. Full lineup after the jump.

New Album of the Week

Black Mountain - In The Future

Black Mountain are a stoner rock outfit from Canada, and their newest release In The Future is a collection of high-powered, psychedlia-influenced anthems reminiscent of everything from Led Zeppelin to Jethro Tull to the Rolling Stones to Grace Slick. Also, for those in the ATX, Black Mountain will be playing at Emo's with Dead Meadow on February 10.

Amy Winehouse at it again

It's really sad to keep posting and learning about every new problem and maniacal freakout in Amy Winehouse's life, but we just can't help it. She's the British Britney Spears, except where Britney may be bipolar or have associative identity disorder, Amy is just a crazy crackhead. Footage is from The Sun.
