We Are Scientists Cover Nickelback
This is good stuff. There's nothing like a band that doesn't take themselves too seriously, and I think We Are Scientists covering "Rock Star" by Nickelback proves that they don't.
Listen to it over at what's the word.

The Beatles go ukulele
Jake Shimabukuro brought his ukulele-playing skills to Late Night with Conan O'Brien last night, and all I can say is wow. This is one talented dude, and even Conan went crazy, towering over Jake and saying "Wow. We've been doing this show for a long time. That is one of my favorite things I've ever seen, over here."
Enjoy.

Man that's a long...tongue

The latest "celebrity" to bust out with a sex tape is none than other KISS' Gene Simmons. Based on the photos, this one isn't very appealing, as that extra-long tongue isn't even used for anything special or out of the ordinary. Lame.
Plus, Gene doesn't even take his shirt off. Wait, that's probably actually a very good thing.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Edition
Sorry for the lack of new material. Long week.
The first solo-band installment of Guitar Hero is due out this June, and the band chosen? Aerosmith. I personally think there could have been a better choice, but what are you gonna do?

Dream Theater Greatest Hit Collection Artwork

The artwork for prog-metal masters Dream Theater's upcoming collection Greatest Hit, and 21 other pretty cool songs, has been revealed, and it's a doozy. The title of course references the band's ability to garner a loyal following of fans despite getting no help from radio or MTV (aside from that one greatest hit "Pull Me Under"). To ensure that it satisfies long-time fans as well as new, the collection will feature updated versions of some of the band's older songs, as well as various radio edits and rarities.
The album is available April 1. Track listing below.
Disc 1 (The Dark Side):
01. Pull Me Under (2007 Remix)
02. Take The Time (2007 Remix)
03. Lie (Single Edit)
04. Peruvian Skies
05. Home (Single Edit)
06. Misunderstood (Single Edit)
07. The Test That Stumped Them All
08. As I Am
09. Endless Sacrifice
10. The Root Of All Evil
11. Sacrificed Sons
Disc 2 (The Light Side):
01. Another Day (2007 Remix)
02. To Live Forever
03. Lifting Shadows Off A Dream
04. The Silent Man
05. Hollow Years
06. Through Her Eyes (Alternate Album Mix)
07. The Spirit Carries On
08. Solitary Shell (Single Edit)
09. I Walk Beside You
10. The Answer Lies Within
11. Disappear

The Notorious Van B.I.G.
Mash-up time ladies and gents, this time in the form of Van Halen vs. Biggie. Of course, these things always bring about the big question, do you rock out to such mash-ups or treat them as hip-hop tunes and dirty dance? It's a conundrum.

Stella & Carolyn Kennedy entertain Barack
Ok, so it's not really Carolyn Kennedy, it's Paul Rudd, but nevertheless he joined the comedy trio Stella (Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, David Wain) and hilarity ensued.
Oh my god! You banged him! You dog, you banged him!

New Album of the Week

You gotta love stoner rock. That's exactly what you get with Dead Meadow's Old Growth.
They're playing with Black Mountain and Blood On The Wall this Sunday at Emo's. So if you're an ATX-er, you better be there.

New Sufjan Stevens Video
"Palm Sunday Tornado Hits Crystal Lake." Good ol' Sufjan with ridiculously complex titles and a style of music that says he can't decide if he wants to play electro-pop or straightforward alt-acoustic. Video's cool though.

Cradle of Filth takes on the Black Eyed Peas
Ok, not really, and this isn't even a super new video, but it's freaking hilarious. One of numerous sync videos where a song is played over a video in an attempt to make them match up. This one works beautifully. Now just imagine Fergie dressing in all black and growling death metal vocals. Scary.

New Presidents of the United States of America
So, I'm not gonna lie to you, I had no idea that POTUSOA were even still around until I came across this new song on their myspace. It's titled "Mixed up SOB" and it's your typical pop-punk fare, but hey, at least it's better than Fall Out Boy. I guess you can always take solace in that. Check it out.

New Pelican Video
Here's a clip of "Sirius" from the new Pelican DVD "After The Ceiling Cracked." Playing an atmospheric blend of progressive post rock a la Isis and Neurosis, Pelican is a unique, fresh alternative to many groups out there today.

Lemmy wants to go out in true rockstar fashion

MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister was reported as saying he hopes to die on stage like Tommy Cooper. He also said he's for sure going to hell, because that's apparently where all the pool tables are. As long as he isn't involved with creating another freaking theme song for a WWE wrestler, he can die however he wants.

The Saturday Selection
Up this week is a tasty little guitar solo from John Petrucci, axeman for progressive metal masters Dream Theater. This particular snippet is taken from the song "Hollow Years", captured on the band's DVD Live At Budokan, filmed at, you guessed it, the Budokan. Enjoy.

A/V Club Lists 18 Ridiculous Prog Rock Covers

Everybody knows that prog is seen as a pretentious, excessive little genre that thinks its better than everyone else. That may be true, and it is a fact that most prog musicians have more talent than indie kids, but the artwork is different story. Album art for prog records is often extremely over-the-top, but hey that's why we love 'em. Our good friends at the AV Club have listed what they consider the 18 most ridiculous prog rock album covers, featuring everybody from Rush to The Mars Volta to Dream Theater. Check it.
