The artwork for prog-metal masters Dream Theater's upcoming collection Greatest Hit, and 21 other pretty cool songs, has been revealed, and it's a doozy. The title of course references the band's ability to garner a loyal following of fans despite getting no help from radio or MTV (aside from that one greatest hit "Pull Me Under"). To ensure that it satisfies long-time fans as well as new, the collection will feature updated versions of some of the band's older songs, as well as various radio edits and rarities.

This week's recommended new release is the new disc from The Mars Volta, The Bedlam in Goliath. The band stays true to their psychedelic, latin-tinged prog roots, but fortunately, they've decided to tone down some of the more 'artsy' aspects - i.e. tracks of only noise and spacey guitar wankery - in favor of more actual song lengths. I'm convinced that these guys can't make a bad album.

The 2008 Coachella lineup has been announced, and headlining the festival's final day will be Roger Waters performing Dark Side of the Moon. I think that's a pretty awesome way to close the fest but most early comments and reactions from loyal fans and festival-goers don't seem to agree. It's definitely not as good as this past year's ACL but I'd take ol' Rog over Bobby Dylan any day. Headlining Saturday is a reconvened Portishead, and closing the fest's opening night will be Jack Johnson. But the best part, on tap for Saturday, Dwight. Freaking. Yoakam. Excited? This is the start of a weekly feature here on Hey, Hey, What's That Sound. I'm shooting for every Saturday, but don't hold me to it. Anyway, as the title implies, it consists of videos and/or songs that I'm not ashamed to enjoy, even though society would say I probably should be. First up is an acoustic set by a little band called Hanson. Seriously, these guys are pretty damn talented, and the melodies are great. Listen to the those crazy falsetto backing vocals from Zac on the second song, "The River." Also recommended are "Penny & Me" and "The Walk".

The Recording Academy has circulated a petition calling for the Writers Guild of America to accept an agreement that would give writers a waiver to work on the upcoming Grammy awards. Apparently, this strike thing is only allowable if it doesn't directly harm something a certain party wants. We're worried though that with the recent rash of single studio agreements and now this suggested waiver, that something big is about to go down, and it may not be a good thing.

So Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson debuted Abdul's new single "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" on Ryan Seacrest's radio show today. The song will be featured on an upcoming - and we're sure it will be great [/sarcasm] - album titled Randy Jackson's Music Club, Vol. 1. As for the tune, it's awful, but Britney's been getting a lot of radio play lately, so there's no doubt this one will too. We're sad.

David Letterman's back with his original writing staff, but the curse of horrible sound still plagues the late night talk show, as evidenced by the awfully mixed version of The Mars Volta's performance of "Wax Simulacra" from last night's show. TMV were the highlight of the show, except for maybe Bruce Willis who showed up and played with the band since, as he put it, "I'm currently unemployed." Guests included Sylvester Stallone and those guys from Orange County Choppers. Things that make you go buhhhhhhh.

Dub Trio have posted a track from their forthcoming album Another Sound Is Dying on their Myspace titled "Not For Nothing." This particular tune borrows less from the Dub aspect of their name and focuses more on rocking your socks off. I've already got an advanced copy of the record though, and trust me when I say it's hella good. These three boys from Brooklyn, aside from rocking out as a trio, are also accomplished session musicians who have worked with everyone from G-Unit to Mos Def to the Fugees. Link after the jump.

They claim to not be wishing any misfortune on her, but the AP has Britney Spears' obituary prepared in case something were to happen to the lunatic. Oops, I mean "celebrity". It's not really that big of a surprise, I mean the AP does advance obits all the time to make it easier if a public figure suddenly kicks the bucket, but this story gets special play of course because Britney is 'so huge' right now, but also because, as one entertainment editor puts it, "I think one would agree that Britney seems at risk right now." Thank God she doesn't have anything to do with the kids.

A Racine minister nearly lost his chance to see the Green Bay Packers play in the NFC championship game against the New York Giants this Sunday when he accidentally shredded one of his four tickets, and nearly all of them. Luckily, he has a friend who "noticed it was a ticket of some sort" and stopped the madness. The Packers will still honor the ticket as long as he brings in the pieces to the game this weekend, but chances are Walter Hermanns isn't too happy with his wife at the moment.

Hello there, and welcome to the initial post at "Hey, Hey, What's That Sound." I, Robert Rich, will be your faithful tour guide for what will hopefully be a life-enhancing journey.

We'll start this thing off right with the new video for "Enjoy The Ride" by European trip-hoppers Morcheeba. A great animated cut with a ghoulish quality pervading, the video compliments the song nicely.

Morcheeba's new album Dive Deep is out on Feb. 4 in Europe.
